Dreams can be a very useful way to help you deal with issues in your life. When ever I work with a client, I may use their dreams at night to help them to deal with problems in their life.
A dream dictionary will only give you a rough idea what a dream means to you. You have to ask yourself, what is this dream telling me and let your sub conscious over time reveal the meaning.
Everybody dreams at night, but dreams tend to quickly escape our consciousness, unless we write them down as soon as we have have them.
Over the years I have looked into Lucid dreaming and become successful at it. I used to wear a sleeping mask called a Nova dreamer. The Nova dreamer had a electronic circuit board built into it. When your eyes go into Rapid eye movement, it would start flashing a little red light to wake you up in your dream.
During the day you had to look around for any instances of red flashing lights and ask yourself the question, “Am I dreaming or am I awake?” What ever you ask yourself during the day time, you will also ask yourself while you dream at night. When the Nova dreamer detects that you are dreaming, it will start to flash, you will notice the flashing red lights and ask yourself whether you are dreaming or not. Eventually you will become lucid in your dream, that can be quite a thrill for the first time.
There is a very simple technique where you look at some writing on a card, look away and ask yourself whether you are awake or dreaming? If you look back and you can’t see the writing you will know you are dreaming and become Lucid. You need to do this technique at regular intervals during the day and you will automatically do it at night and become Lucid in your dream. Text doesn’t stay the same while dreaming.
When you first start Lucid dreaming, you tend to have very sexual dreams. But as you become more experienced at Lucid dreaming, you can then use Lucid dreaming to learn new skills or face fears.
There are many exercises to help you with Lucid dreaming, the person who deserves much of the credit for the development of Lucid dreaming is Steven Laberge, who also created the Lucidity Institute.
The Nova dreamer is no longer made, I found it very cumbersome to wear every night, it could be a little scary for your partner if you were sharing a bed and they woke up next to you at night.
I have tried other methods to help me with Lucid dreaming and I had quite a good success while using Bradley Thompson’s method. Rather than using a Nova dreamer, Bradley Thompson suggested using a digital watch with an alarm, to prompt you while dreaming. Rather than using a visual cue, you used an auditory cue. A Nova dreamer cost about £100′s whereas a cheap LCD watch will only set you back a few pounds and be as effective. The bonus of the audio cue, is that you don’t have to wear a Nova dreamer mask.
Steve Laberge got people to signal with their eyes once they became Lucid in their dreams. Our bodies are disabled when we are dreaming, however we can move our eyes.
There are many different techniques to help us Lucid dream. But to start with we need to remember our dreams. We go into 1.5 hour cycles while dreaming, which ends in REM sleep. The longer the night goes on the more REM sleep we have in a 1.5 hour cycle. Therefore to remember you dreams, it will be necessary to wake yourself up after 4.5 hours and record your dreams in a note book, that you keep by the side of your bed. Then set your alarm clock for 1.5 hours later and 1.5 hours after that.
Over time I have programmed my mind to remember my dreams and you may need to keep saying to yourself “I will remember my dreams”.
There are techniques to keep your Lucid dreams going once you are in them, such as spinning and it is amazing that you do it automatically, once you have conditioned yourself to do it. I also say things to my self while I am Lucid dreaming to keep the dream going.
There is a technique, where you wake yourself up an hour early, go about your daily tasks and then go back to sleep for an hour. This tends to create more chance of a Lucid dream.
Or you could use simple auto suggestion and say to yourself “I will Lucid dream tonight”. In the future I will create a Hypnotherapy Mp3 download to help with Lucid dreaming.
There are other techniques called Wilds, Dilds and Milds. Wake Initiated Lucid dream, Dream initiated Lucid dream and Mnemonic Lucid dreaming. I think I have already wet-ted your appetite enough about Lucid dreaming.
If you wake up in the middle of the night, as you fall back to sleep you could say 1 I am dreaming, 2 I am dreaming etc and at some point you should have your first Lucid dream. Much like counting sheep to fall asleep.
You may want to use your Lucid dreams to learn to play a musical instrument, to help you with stage flight or learn to dance. There are techniques you can use to incubate these dreams, so you become Lucid in them. Rather than being chased by a monster in a dream, you can awaken from your dream become Lucid and make friends with the monster.
In the future I am going to set up some courses and workshops on Lucid dreaming and if you are interested in these, please contact me.
Sometimes a group of people coming together with the same intent, can really help you to learn a new skill, along with the course material.
