Dear All

Field of dreams

Field of dreams

Many years ago before I got into the positive thinking field, I remember watching the “Field of Dreams”, with Kevin Costner in it.  I remember him hearing the voice saying to him “If you build it, it will come”.  That belief has stuck with me ever since.

My parents went on holiday earlier this summer and left me with their sweet corn plants.   The plants grew that much while they were on holiday, I decided to take them up to their allotment to plant, it reminded me very much of the film “Field of dreams” and gave me the idea to write this blog on beliefs.

If I told you to think about “Pink Elephants”, what happens.  It is important to say what you want in a positive way.  For example  “I don’t want to be overweight”, would be better said “I am my ideal weight”.  So that you create a positive picture in your mind.

A belief isn’t going to change over night, it has to be said many times to yourself, until you change your belief and behaviour.    Émile Coué suggested  “Every day in every way, I am getting better and better”.  Gradually fools the subconscious mind into believing the new belief.

When I work with individuals using NLP and Hypnotherapy techniques.  I first teach them how to relax, use a number of visualisation exercises, I get them to tense and release muscles and teach them how to breath correctly.   Once very relaxed I put a number of positive suggestions into their subconscious mind, which the mind absorbs like a sponge.  However the tailor made recording I give them each time they come to see me, needs to be played daily to gradually condition the mind.  This is a very simplistic way of how I help people, but much of what I do is unconscious, that I have learned over a very long time.

I had to go up to my parents allotment five times, before I was successful in taking a picture of their sweet corn, due to a number of technical issues, which I shall not go into.   If you don’t at first succeed, keep trying until you do.  Just like the little little engine that got to the top of the hill, because it thought it could, in the children’s story.

Until next time

Keep thinking positive.
