How can I help your businesses in the Sheffield and South Yorkshire by conducting tailor made Stress Management courses or Workshops for you?
Why should you reduce stress in the organisation?
Health and Safety Executive (H.S.E.) says:-
Work related stress accounts for a third of all new incidences of ill health.
An average of 30.2 working days are lost for each stress related illness
13.8 million working days were lost to stress and stress related conditions between 2006-07
The opposite side of Stress is efficiency, which is the positive outcome.
Companies who want to be successful are the ones who get the most out of their employees, whilst their employees stay in harmony with themselves.
Would you run a car year after year, without a service or changing the oil?
I would assume that successful organisations want to be well thought of by their employees and wish that long servants of theirs are able to enjoy the benefits of their retirement.
Everybody goes through stress to some degree in their life; it is a case of managing stress at a healthy level, as too little stress is also boredom. Boredom is as bad for you, as too much stress is. If an unhealthy level of stress continues for too long, it can result in a break down occurring, which may result in a number of months off work to recover. After a breakdown, it could take a year to be performing at your original capacity, if you deal with the root cause of what caused the breakdown in the first place.
Too much stress over a long period can result in all sorts of bad physical manifestations.
It would be much better to ensure that people never go past the point of no return; otherwise the after effects take much longer to rectify.
How many people are there in your organisation who never get to the point of break down, however hover just beneath it and make a greater number of mistakes and are not as efficient as they can be. Appearing at work, but not contributing as much as they could.
Life in general is much more stressful nowadays than it has ever been. Remember the days when you could have any car as long as it was black. Look how many different choices there are of each product in a super market nowadays.
Many people come into work and blame the job for causing them stress, however it could be their home life as much as work that is causing their stress, “what came first, the chicken or the egg scenario”.
At one time generally speaking the man went out to work and the lady stayed at home. Now both sexes’ share responsibility, which can cause a whole lot of additional stress away from work, which can impact on one’s ability at work.
Other illness could be the result of Stress, such as bad backs, colds and viruses. While I was working at the Midland Bank (H.S.B.C.), each year we were sent our personnel records to check, on looking through my illness days, they increased during the year period when I myself were suffering from stress. Previous and after that year, I had very few ill days.
Many people rather than going to their General Practitioner (G.P.) for stress, decide to self medicate. Extended licensing hours and cheap alcohol in supermarkets have increased the reliance on alcohol to calm the nerves. However the initial feeling of euphoria from drinking alcohol, to the depressant effect later, is a false sense of security.
The number of admissions to Accident and Emergency (A.E.) units at hospitals has increased considerably the last few years, which you may have noticed in the press and media over the last few months. Certain studies have shown that 25% of admissions to A&E units are alcohol related, rising to 70% at peak periods during the weekends.
From my own personal experiences thirteen years ago, after seeking out help for my panic attacks I was suffering. During the three months of seeing an hypnotherapist on a weekly basis my drinking reduced 50%, since that time my drinking has reduced to Zero. I am not advocating for people to be tea total, however from my own experiences, as stress reduced in my life, so did alcohol consumption.
We have drink driving laws in place that suggest it is dangerous to drive after drinking two units of alcohol. It is against the law to drink while operating machinery, however drinking alcohol excessively on a regular basis must impair decision making and the ability to do ones job, even if outside working hours.
Most people must remember a time in the past when they suffered from a hang over and how long that lasted.
What could be done to reduce stress in an organisation and improve productivity?
I think that we can all agree that pay is not the only factor that motivates people to go to work. Secondly I would say job satisfaction, must be up at the top of the list of most people’s job desires.
I can conduct Stress Management workshops/courses that are part theory and practical, showing people how to become more relaxed at work and home, allowing them to become more efficient.
I would involve the group as much as possible in the work shop, they have the answers, but don’t realise it yet.
I can do work place coaching, helping individuals to become more productive in their roles, by looking at their work in a different way.
I can do motivational speaking.
I can help individuals who are going through a very rocky time to get back on a smooth path as soon as possible.
The National Health Service ( N.H.S.) are only able to offer individuals a limited amount of help to get back on track, which also has a delay in being provided. The longer an individual is off work or less than productive, the longer it will take them to get back into a fully productive role, therefore being shown the way by somebody else who went through that problem a long time ago, will en
able maximum benefit to the individual and organisation.
I can also do a consultancy role.
