Hi Everybody
As well as being an hypnotherapist and blogging on personal development, I also have an interesting life away from my work.
Twenty years ago I went for some ballroom lessons with my partner at the time and didn’t enjoy the lessons at all, I just couldn’t take in all the different moves. Rather than learning one dance before we moved onto the next, we were sometimes learning three different dances in a class. After the initial beginners lessons I decided I no longer wanted to dance. This was about the same time as I was going through a very stressful part of my life, which changed my career direction from working in the Telecom department at HSBC.
About 10 years ago I hadn’t given up on the thought of ballroom dancing, but didn’t have a partner to dance with. However one of my friends at HSBC, suggested I started Salsa dancing in Sheffield, where I didn’t need a partner.
I went for the first lesson, which was in the old Claymore pub in Sheffield, by the side of the old Fiesta night club. To start with we had to learn just the basic steps without a partner and I felt very self conscious. When it came to dancing with the partner, it was a real struggle getting my feet and legs to co-ordinate together. However I persevered with the classes for the next twelve months and there was a hour or two of free style at the end of the night.
After 12 months I started to feel as though I was going no where with the Salsa dancing and stopped going. However I decided to go and have some private ballroom lessons at Drapers dance studio on the edge of Sheffield, Drapers also ran a 6 weeks beginners class in Salsa dance and I went along for these as well, as I didn’t need a partner.
I eventually found a Salsa dancing class in Dinnington and after a couple of weeks met a girl there, who I had known from a distance while growing up in Anston. She asked me if she could go for ballroom dancing lessons with me, I therefore moved from private lessons at Drapers to do a 12 week beginners course in ballroom dance.
We then started dancing at Sheffield City Hall, Blackpool Tower and various other local venues. We also learnt how to sequence dance, by following other couples in the room.
After a few years me and Julie split up and I stopped dancing for six months, as I got that used to dancing with her, that I couldn’t dance with other people.
I started Salsa dancing again at Worksop where you didn’t need a partner and was much more confident than I had been when I had first started at Sheffield. Rather than being a beginner I was now an intermediate dancer. One Christmas however at the social night, they taught everybody in the room how to “Cha Cha Cha” and I decided I was going to start ballroom dancing again.
A lady who had taught at Drapers, where I first learnt to ballroom dance, had decided to start her own dance school at the Lyric in Dinnington, where I had first met Julie. When I had the ballroom dance lessons at Drapers I had found it difficult, however this time at the Lyric, it was like going back through things again.
Now I could go in the City Hall in Sheffield and dance with a number of different ladies.
Eventually I felt as though I had reached a plateau with my lessons in the Lyric and decided to go to the City Limits in Sheffield, to improve my dancing further.
Eventually while I was dancing in the City Hall Sheffield, I met a new dance partner. She was relatively new to dancing and was having lessons at Karen Byron’s school of dance at Thurnscoe. So I went for further private lessons with Helen and then we moved into the normal classes. At last I could Foxtrot, which had been the hardest ballroom dance for me to pick up. I was also able to nearly do all the sequence dances they do in the City Hall.
I didn’t last that long with Helen and I started to find it difficult in the City Hall, because all the dance partners were much older, so I started doing Modern jive at the Davy’s club in Sheffield, where people more my own age went. There would be about two hours of lessons and then two hours of free style dancing. Even though I hadn’t been doing modern jive very long I picked up the steps very easy and was now a confident leader.
At the moment I am a little bit between the devil and the deep blue sea, I started to get bored doing Modern jive all night and wasn’t comfortable going in the City Hall and not being able to dance with ladies my own age.
At the moment I am looking for a lady my own age and build, who wants to learn how to ballroom dance well.
If I was going to recommend a dance school, it would be Karen Byron’s dance school at Thurnscoe, which is an old converted church hall. I went to both classes and private lessons with Helen my partner at the time and seemed to progress very quickly. Karen is actively involved in her dance school with both the private lessons and classes. While me and Helen were having classes, the other people in the class used to change partners, which is unusual in dance schools, but a better way of learning to social dance with other people.
Karen’s husband also used to help out with the dance classes in the evening. Karen can be called on 01709-889977, if you wish to talk to her, about how she maybe able to accommodate you. Karen learnt at Constance Grant’s dance school and went onto teach there, before opening her own school in 1979.
All the best for now.

Hi Everybody
My blog’s main them is personal development, but I will also write about technical aspects of building my web site and anything else I feel strongly enough to write about.
I have just finished building my web site on word press, but need to choose a theme that I really like and the words on my site need tweaking.
However I am now looking to exchange web site links with sites of a similar nature, as the google search engine favours sites with more links. Keywords appearing many times is an important factor also, along with good page titles. Other than that, that is as difficult as it gets for web site optimisation, to the best of my knowledge.
Please contact me via tim@hypnosis-sheffield.com if you would like to exchange web site links.

Hi Everybody
I am starting to feel more comfortable with the new web site, I have been building for my hypnotherapy business on wordpress. My original web site is on Serif, but the blog couldn’t be indexed by search engines, so I decided to create a blog on word press and link it up to my Serif web site. At the same time I had been looking to create a new web site on a content management system and had struggled on Joomla, Drupal and Cms made simple.
I then discovered that I could turn my wordpress blog into a decent web site, which I have done. I have copied the pages across from my old site and all I need to now do is fine tune the content on the pages.
I have had Artisteer on trial and yesterday I purchased it and I am quite happy with my first template, but I can improve on it, as I get used to Artisteer.
I have added quite a few plugins, one of them will allow me to sell MP3 recordings on line, once I can figure it out.
At some stage I will add a social networking element, which I can add via my cpanel on Evohosting.
Any way I will leave it there for the time being and will talk about Ballroom dancing next time, something I like to do in my spare time and I will go back to personal development next week.

Hi Everybody
Back onto the subject of hypnotherapy.
I once had a customer come to see me, because he was having a false knee joint, using a local anesthetic. He didn’t fancy having the surgery while he was fully conscious and wondered if I could help.
I found out a little bit more about the process he was going through, I then relaxed him very deeply and suggested a positive outcome. I also suggested that time would pass very quickly for him while he was being operated on. I produce a tailor made CD each time people come to see me, which I gave him to take away and suggested that he used it on a daily basis, until after the operation.
A week later I contacted him to see how he was going on and found out from his wife that he had already had the operation and he had been fine. He has a 2nd knee joint to be replaced in the future, so the CD I have already produced can be re used, a week before his next operation. He will already be more confident about the outcome, following his previous operation.
I once watched this television program showing somebody having their teeth extracted using hypnotherapy and then posts drilled into their bone in their gums to enable false teeth to be fitted. They were monitored on a bio feedback machine to show how relaxed they were and their heart rate stayed very low. The technique was for quite a few hours and I assume that they didn’t suffer any pain.
Before modern drugs, it was quite common for people to have teeth out, while being in a hypnotic state. I can imagine people and dentists find it more convenient to use a local anesthetic, rather than taking the time to hypnotise somebody, for pain control.
James Esdaille (1808-1859) carried out many operations in India for six years, with people under the influence of hypnotherapy. There was less scrutiny, than if the operations had been in London. He found out that the success rate and recovery rate after, was much greater than other surgeons were experiencing. However a cheap and effective drug came on the market and the rest is history.
Personally I prefer a local anesthetic. I had my first tooth out for 30 years last year and because in the past I had been put to sleep by gas or using a needle, I felt a little concerned about it. However I couldn’t believe how quick and easy it was to extract the tooth.
Keep positive until next time.
Best regards

Hi everyone
My blog is mainly about personal development, but I will also talk about things that interest me.
I live about two miles from the canal and can get there by going across the fields, at South Anston. The canal has been renovated from Worksop to Kiveton in the last few years. There is quite a stair case of locks at Turner Wood. When you get to the row of houses at Turner wood, there is a turning circle for the boats and pair of swans hang out there. You can also buy refreshments at one of the houses, from Dianne.
If you carry on walking from Turner Wood towards Worksop, you will come to the village of Shireoaks, where there is another cafe and a shop. The trains also stop at Shireoaks station.
If you carry on a bit further, you will come to Shireoaks Marina.
A little further on you will come into the town of Worksop, the canal passes right through the centre of Worksop. Worksop has quite a decent shopping centre for a town of 40,000 people. However it does have the same issue as many existing town centre’s, but it is well worth a look around.
If you carry on further along the canal you can get to Retford, which is probably another 6 miles or so. Retford being another market town, with a decent shopping centre.
This weekend I decided to investigate the section of Canal from Kiveton to Chesterfield, but this section is still awaiting a large amount of work. The old Norwood tunnel has been closed for many years and did take about an hour to get boats through, it was that straight you could see light at the other end.
The tunnel won’t be renovated, a gorge will be cut through the old Kiveton pit site which is now a leisure area. It will then be necessary to create a stair case of locks to bring the canal down to Rothervalley park. The canal will then access the River Rother, before picking up the original canal.
As I found out this weekend, that British waterways sold off the Chesterfield canal at Killamarsh in the 1970′s and houses where built on that stretch of it.
I only managed to cover a 2 mile section in about four hours, as the canal is so overgrown at this point.
Further along the canal into Chesterfield, there has already been a lot of restoration work carried out and I will go and investigate this later.
I hope you found this interesting and if I can help you further please leave a message.
I find a good walk in the countryside, a great way to relax.
All the best

Hi everybody
It feels very cold today in Sheffield, but temperatures seem to be gradually rising.
I went out for a walk on the Chesterfield to Worksop canal yesterday and saw the first boat moving up it since before Christmas. Spring isn’t far away now.
Moving back quickly on to the subject at hand.
If I was working with an individual who was trying to attain their ideal weight, I would first find out a little bit more about their life, their weight issue only being the tip of the iceberg.
I would relax them very deeply and suggest a positive outcome into their subconscious mind. I would also be helping them to visualise themselves how they would like to look. I would help them to become more motivated to exercise. I would help them to improve their diet. The key to it all would be relaxation, because as you relax old behaviours you no longer desire drop off. The weight issue will have arisen over a long period of time, so I give you a recording of the relaxation and hypnotherapy session to take away on CD and it will be necessary for you to find time to use the recording on a daily basis.
Eating excessive amounts of food could be as a result of boredom and stress or lifestyle.
I wouldn’t recommend loosing more than two pounds a week, as the body has to get used to the new you. If you loose weight too quickly, it is possible to put this weight back on quickly at some period in the future. The subconscious mind doesn’t like big changes, so we have to fool it and make the change sustainable.
You can also eat plenty of food, but ensure that the food you eat is interesting and healthy. If you are not eating the correct food, you are going to feel tired and lethargic and won’t feel like exercising.
I always check with the individual a week later to see if everything is going OK and they have my e-mail address if they need to contact me for any advice. I would arrange for you to come back in a month and see me.
If you would like to purchase an off the shelf CD for attaining your ideal weight, please visit my web site www.hypnosis-sheffield.com. I can send you a recording via Skype and charge using Paypal. I will be doing Mp3 downloads shortly.
All the best.

P.S. If you have any suggestions of topics I should blog on, please leave a comment.
Hi Everybody
My blog will be about any thing positive thinking, but also anything I feel strong enough to talk about.
My existing web site is on Serif software, but it was limited because the blog was hosted on the Serif host, which meant I wouldn’t have any control over search engines accessing it.
I looked around for a decent blog and the best I came across was Word Press. At the same time I was looking to update my web site from Serif to a Content Management System.
I loaded Joomla, Drupal and Cms made simple onto my host to trial and found them all difficult to work. It would have been worth understanding them further if I was part of a big corporate organisation and that was the main part of my job description.
I found out that people were using WordPress to build content management systems and went down that road and am glad I did. After ironing a few problems in the back ground, I now feel that I can go ahead an build my site. At some stage I will need to better understand template design, but I will cross that bridge when I get to it.
Because I was only using Word Press as a blog to start with, I loaded it into directory /wordpress, but have had to move it into my root directory now I am using it as Cms as well.
I am sure that WordPress has a lot more capability than I have already discovered and will improve my web site with time. But now I know where I am going, I feel much happier.
I will go out for a nice walk in the countryside where I live this afternoon and post a blog later today on Positive thinking. Hopefully I can add a nice picture to my next blog, the wonders of technology.
All the best

I am starting to get in the groove when it comes to blogging.
I am still a little bogged down with building my new web site on a Content management system. I started off with Joomla, but could never understand the menu system. I then tried Drupal but gave up after a few days. Then I progressed onto Content management system made easily, which seemed fine until I needed to add a nice template to it. So I am back around full circle in trying to figure out Joomla.
Where does positive thinking fit in.
There was a famous french pharmacist called Emile Coue and he discovered that when he gave his clients sugar pills instead of a real pill, that because they believed the pill would work, they got better.
He developed his method further and came up with the suggestion “Every day in every way I am getting better and better”. The subconscious mind doesn’t like great change, so by repeating this mantra in your head, you bypass your conscious mind and install the new belief directly in your subconscious mind. It is best to say this affirmation to yourself first thing in a morning, or last thing at night and any time you have a spare moment.
With the change only being gradual, your subconscious mind is fooled and takes on the new belief.
Taking this approach a little further, I could use the following suggestion to build my new web site.
“Day be day, hour by hour, moment by moment, I have more fully built a fantastic content management system for my business web site”. Repeating this affirmation to myself will drive the thought deep into my subconscious mind, so that I change my behaviour and carry out the necessary tasks and choose the right software.
I hope this makes sense to you and please leave a comment, if you need further information.
Until next time
Keep thinking positive.

Hi Everybody
I am still overloaded a bit with creating my new web site, but I think it is about time I get back to blogging on my subject matter, personal development. I was pleasantly surprised to get four replies to a previous blog I had created and it is giving me enthusiasm to blog on a more regular basis.
Web presence is so important in this day and age, and not to be taken lightly.
I have had quite a few people coming to me in the past with the fear of flying. I can remember leaving my card at a local travel agents and a lady ringing me up in desperation at the last minute. She was a week away from going on holiday, had been unable to go on her last holiday because of the fear of flying and had been unable to get a refund.
When people come to see me, they have usually tried everything else.
She said to me that I would never be able to relax her, but by the end of the session she had commented on how all the tension in her shoulders had disappeared.
All I do is find out a little bit more about why somebody has a fear of flying, I then relax them very deeply and suggest a positive outcome into their subconscious mind. The session is recorded onto a CD and the onus is then on them to play the CD every day until they go away on holiday, if they miss a day it is just a case of starting the next day.
I could never get hold of the customer after, but on talking to the travel agents I had found out that she had travelled ok.. Then a few months later I found out she had been on another holiday.
A few years later her husband came to see me by coincidence from a totally different source. He had a number of sessions to help him become a non-smoker. He actually cancelled one of the sessions, because they were going on holiday abroad.
My first ever customer through the Yellow pages in 2001, pre booked for 10 sessions. In my early days I required much much longer to help people deal with deep rooted issues, it is now closer to 5 sessions. One week he rang me the day before the session and asked if his partner could come instead, because she had a fear of flying. She had one session and used the tape I produced daily. She also listened to the tape while away on holiday and travelled fine.
The mind is a powerful tool and it is possible to distort time, so that an unpleasant task passes very quickly. Relaxation is also the key, as negative emotions associated with flying drop away. Positive visualisation of the experience before hand, is also the key to a pleasant journey.
If anybody is interested in purchasing a recording for the fear of flying, I can accept paypal and transfer files directly to you via skype. I can also offer e-mail support to ensure that you are getting the best use of your recording. If I you have any queries, please post a comment and I will get back to you.
I have added a nice picture at the bottom of the post, I have found Irfanview a great free picture editor.
All the best until next time.

Hi everybody
I am sorry that it has taken me so long to post since last time, but I have been working heavily behind the scenes on my web presence. Normally I will be talking about all things personal development, but web presence has been a major concern to me lately, so I will talk about that today and get it off my chest.
Having had a 15 year career in Information technology and having been a Electronics apprentice, I couldn’t think of anybody better to build my web site. I started off with Microsoft front page and had to upgrade after the software corrupted. I upgraded to Microsoft publishing which was a back word step. Last year I purchased Serif X2 (costs £60), which is my current web site www.hypnosis-sheffield.com, hosted on yahoo’s web hosting.
I have found Serif X2 a great package to build my web site on, it has a large amount of functionality and you don’t need to understand the programming level of the software HTML. However if you understand HTML, you can update the code directly. The only problem I have found with the software, is that because HTML is created for you, the HTML coding is a lot more complicated than it needs to be. Also the blog and forum part of the software is hosted on their server, which means it isn’t being read by the search engines and the reason for me creating a word press blog.
I decided that I wanted to host my web site on British soil, because that is where I lived and that I wanted to build an even better web site. I decided to use British Telecom, but wasn’t that impressed with their hosting package and after a year withdrew from it and changed to Evohosting which I have found to be excellent and they are based in Kent. It costs me £9 a month to host on Evhosting, which includes a free domain name and e-mail support. The Evohosting control panel is very easy to use.
I started to use Joomla to build a Content management System web site, but after a year couldn’t figure out the menu system. I tried Drupla for a day and their system seemed flawed and I couldn’t get any assistance from their forum. Within a day of loading Content management System made easy, I had copied over my existing site and rebuilt it.
I wouldn’t say that Content management system made simple is that easy. It is necessary to actually start changing programming lines and I still haven’t been able to create a great template design for my web site, which was much easier on Joomla. But I think this is the direction I will now be going in and this site will eventually replace my Serif X2 site.
All the Content Management Systems seem to have pro’s and con’s. I think it is a case of finding one you feel comfortable with and sticking with it.
I personally think it is better to build your own web site, rather than let somebody else build it for a number of reasons. People seem to charge about £800 to build a very simple site, that cann’t be updated at a later stage. By building the site yourself, you build your web site exactly the way you want it to be.
Web sites have to be continually evolving. The more keywords that are specific to your business that appear in your content, the higher you rank in web search engines like google. It is necessary to link to as many other web sites that are similiar to your business as possible and get them to link back to you.
A lot of people want to build you a web site or optimise it for you. This can cost you an arm and a leg. But you cann’t get a web site built or optimised and then leave it, it is something you have to work on all the time and that will cost you a small fortune, if you wanting it doing correctly.
It is a steep learning curve to build your own web site and ensure it is correctly optimised by search engines, but I would advise anybody else to move in this direction.
Hopefully I will be talking about more personal development things next time, but from time to time I will be going back to web presence as I think this is one of the most important area’s in the development of today’s business’s.
